Biography of Duane L. Bliss, between 1921 and 1945 / (by his son, W.S. Bliss).

Biographical sketch of Duane L. Bliss (June 10, 1833-Dec. 23, 1907), who came to California from Massachusetts in 1849, via the Panama route. In 1860, he went to Nevada and became a partner in a banking firm. In 1871, he co-founded a timber company in the Lake Tahoe region (Yerington, Bliss & Co.). In 1873, he was made president and manager of the Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Co., which operated several sawmills and steamers. Following the exhaustion of the Comstock mines, Bliss became president of the Lake Tahoe Railway & Transportation Co.
